As kindred souls who adhere to the authority of Scripture and the unchanging nature of Christ, we are praying actively and deliberately for God’s holy will to be done at the 150th Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Our prayer initiative takes place in two stages.
First is advance prayer and prep. What you are reading is the first of four weekly prayer guides. Each week has a different theme and each day has a unique prayer. We are also planning a pre-GA Zoom gathering for commissioners on May 27 at 7 p.m. Eastern to discuss the reports and issues which may need to be raised.
Second is active prayer during the week of GA from Sunday June 1 to Thursday June 5 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Prayer will take place in person as kindred commissioners gather prior to breakfast and during the day as required. Location to be announced. At the same time, we will open a Zoom Prayer Room for supporters to pray from a distance during sederunts. Is God nudging you to be a Zoom prayer warrior? Please pray over this and let us know at renewalfellowshippcc@gmail.com.
The overarching prayer for GA is simple: may God’s holy will be done to advance the Kingdom. On this note, we stress that we are seeking God’s will, not our own. Sometimes, it’s difficult to tell the difference.
Each week, we will pray along a certain theme:
May 5-11: Eyes to see
May 12-18: Ears to hear
May 19-25: Minds to understand
May 26-June 1: Hearts to accept
Week 3 – May 19-25: Minds to understand
May 19 – Holy God, we boldly ask that each commissioner be granted the ability to understand the unique task You have provided for each of them.
May 20 – Father, we lift up the Moderator-Elect. May he have clarity of thought as he weighs opinions and outlooks which may be in conflict, and may he be able to exercise rulings which are fair.
May 21 – Gracious God, we lift up the Clerks of Assembly. Instill in them the ability to understand Your will in the advice they provide to the moderator.
May 22 – Holy Lord, we commend to You those who have been called to lead worship and bring the Word. May their minds be attuned to Yours in their choice of words and music.
May 23 – Lord of light, may the minds of our young adult representatives and their handlers be in a place where they can see and act on Your holy will.
May 24 – Father, we ask that those handling audio/visual and virtual feeds may understand the complexities of their endeavours and be able to deal skilfully with any issues which may arise.
May 25 – Holy Spirit, may the onsite prayer room people and those engaging remotely be mindful of the spiritual battles and be able to seek divine shielding for each gathering.
Amen.
Week 2 – May 12-18: Ears to hear
May 12 – Holy God, open the eyes of commissioners as they read the Book of Reports. May they be able to discern what content is in Your will (or seeks Your will) and grant them knowledge of how to respond.
May 13 – Father, may the Moderator-Elect have the ability to see what is required as he prepares to lead.
May 14 – Gracious God, we lift up the Clerks and those working behind the scenes. May they be aware of the needs of commissioners and be willing to accommodate all needs and points of view.
May 15 – Lord, we commend to You those who have been called to lead worship and bring the Word; may they see your Holy Spirit in the music and Word.
May 16 – Lord of light, may those who are guiding and mentoring young adult representatives be able to identify those who stand apart from the crowd and are willing to support their individual consciences.
May 17 – Father, we ask that the Holy Spirit may open the eyes of those who provide audio/visual tools, that all voices may be seen and heard.
May 18 – Holy Spirit, raise up a team of prayer warriors willing to staff the Pray for GA Zoom Prayer Room.
Amen.
Week 1 – May 5-11: Eyes to see
May 5 – Holy God, we boldly ask that You work in the hearts and minds of all commissioners as they prepare to organize their schedules. May You grant them time to thoroughly read the Book of Reports.
May 6 – Father, we lift up the Moderator-Elect, that You will provide him with the time and the motivation to prepare – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – and be able to see with the eyes of Christ.
May 7 – Gracious God, we lift up the Clerks of Assembly. Instill in them the desire to see Your will be recognized where it may not be present.
May 8 – Holy Lord, we commend to You those who have been called to lead worship and bring the Word. May they have eyes to see Your holy messages in their choices of words and music.
May 9 – Lord of light, may the young adult representatives see clearly the task which is before them and be able to navigate their way.
May 10 – Father, we ask that the Holy Spirit bless those with technical skills. May they see what needs to be done to allow problem-free access.
May 11 – Holy Spirit, may those leading prayer be provided with the ability to see necessary details along with the big picture as they engage in prayer.
Amen.
